My new BFG 9800GTX 512mb oc came today. and with it a head ake of bloody problems
1) card was WAY to big for my £100 case so i had to get the bolt cutters out and slice around 1CM from the HDD cage so the card would fit.
That was the first head ake
2) Driver/Faulty? Vista reports the card as 3.6 rating, and im getting all of 6fps on COD4.... something is seriously up and i dont know what...
Anyone got any ideas????

The image below is my rating with my 8600GT 256mb graphics card

And this is my improvement for paying £200 on a 9800GTX 512MB
(ignore new hardware detected, changed bk to other card but didnt update score since 9800)

What driver are you using for the card?

I would:
Download the latest drivers from nVidia and keep them handy.
Uninstall the nVidia drivers with the old card in place and shut down.
Put the new card in, start up and install the new drivers, reboot, test.
If that didn't work then I'd:
Do all the above but also use Driver Cleaner to get rid of all the old traces of drivers for the 8600 series card before installing new card and drivers.
Driver Cleaner has saved me some agro in the past with various driver problems on customers' machines._____________________________________________
