Hi
I am receiving emails sucessfully after about 24 hours without them (which wasn't a problem) however I have noticed that since the move I now have an increase in spam.
As I haven't changed my settings I was wondering whether this could be linked to the move. Not sure how but has anyone else had a similar experience?
Thanks
Deborah
(Just as a footnote in March 2009 I noticed a sudden decrease in spam, and again it was nothing to do with my changing settings, and was never sure if it because of changes at Ariotek or blueyonder who provide my broadband.)

upsurge in spam since server move?

Re: upsurge in spam since server move?
Hi Deborah,
Yes this was a direct result of the move.
The mailscanner license has to match the servers IPs with the servers IP's stored in the mailscanner database which wasnt updated at mailscanner until yesterday.
Everything should be back to normal now. Just shows how much spam mailscanner catches!

I'm still getting quite a few more than normal today, although I guess this could reduce over the next few days.

I've had a lot too. Still happening as of this morning. Mostly Viagra spam for some reason.

I'll keep an eye on the mailscanner, it may have decided that viagra isn't a spam term anymore. I do get some of them too from time to time, mails that is not viagra.

Re: upsurge in spam since server move?
Julian your spam score settings are really high in mailscanner....
Viagra emails going into your mail account are scoring between 13 and 17 on the spam rating. Your account is set to default in mailscanner which delivers everything up to a high scoring spam score of 20. I have mine set to 5 for low scoring spam and 12 for high scoring spam and don't I don't get much spam at all. I'll check your accounts too Vince and Deborah...

Re: upsurge in spam since server move?
Vince, Deborah both the same.
I would recommend you log into cpanel, click mailscanner settings, click other settings and change the high scoring spam setting from default down to around 15 and make sure you have high scoring spam set to delete not deliver.
Should help loads

Re: upsurge in spam since server move?
Cheers Drew,
I haven't changed anything in Mailscanner since well before the move. Before the move I got maybe 2-3 a day but today so far I have received nearer 20. It was like something had changed during the move as the spam only started when the DNS had started resolving. I have now modified the threshold down to 15 and left it on delete as it was previously for one of my domains and will see how it goes for the next few days.Vince Marsters

Re: upsurge in spam since server move?
Yes, I too have seen (and am still seeing) a massive influx in spam (about 6 times "normal"). Ok, I too have the default 5 (Low) and 20 (High) for spam scoring (which I'll change in a mo) and I've always had high scoring spam delivered, and these settings haven't changed recently - yet the volume of spam that has gotten through has - so it's coming from somewhere?!
